My Big Bang!
What a flashy title, so what is it, seriously?
Big Bang is the theme title of our Housing, Building and Planning (HBP) Orientation.
6th July 2009 in the afternoon, the program director, Ahmad Idris came in and “brief” us about the orientation.
This briefing is really brief. He only started telling us they will collect our fee first. We wait, wait and wait, then finally, my turn. Another example of inefficiency (forgive me, it’s to my disliking). A small suggestion to the senior: get the name list, divide the students into different categories (such as respective courses), collect the money and rule out the name. For fee collection, there are always certain group of people having excuse for bringing insufficient money, forgetting or uncertainty. It should be better that way, even though I might not in the position to rant.
And hey, few days later I noticed that this banner is posted up!

I rate the banner design 7.5/10. Graphically apt for the theme, and USM! USM likes purple, too.
Even with a remarkable design of banner, it is futile without an energetic and fun activity, right?
I guess I will have a high anticipation for it…despite their inefficiency of dealing with problems.
9th July, oh well, my friend and I have medical checkup to attend at 5.10 pm, whereas the orientation starts at 5.15 pm. Unfortunately, I expected we will be missing the beginning of the Big Bang. Better hurry.
I was wrong. We could not hurry at all. As I enter Pusat Sejahtera (where we will do our medical checkup), I was stunned by the two long waiting queue.

The picture itself cannot show the tardiness of the medical checkup, but it takes me about 3 hours to complete the medical checkup! I thought I was going to miss the whole story of Big Bang. Fortunately, my friend informed me that the Big Bang was canceled! Hallelujah.
Let’s continue the story with an array of pictures taken throughout the whole event.

As a conclusion, I personally feel that I enjoy playing ExploRace and participating in the Egg Falling Competition. Good job, seniors, appreciate your effort. Let’s do something more fun next year!

What I read today, 06 Jul 2009, 0900-1200.
The week of tiresome stride in the garden is finally over. The dawn of learning curve is near. Today is the day of my first lecture of the subject – RUS101 Integrated Studio 1, it does sounds appealing to me, because of the term “studio”.
Nevertheless, what did I exactly read and experienced at the time frame mentioned?
Before that, I would like to introduce my lecturer of this subject: Mr. Wan Burhanuddin bin Wan Abidin, I will call him Mr. Wan for short.
Visit his personal blog if you are interested: http://www.hbp.usm.my/1b/
Mr. Wan kick-started our session with a slideshow, impressive one. He started talking on “Reading and Documenting”, on the topic such as defining “Reading”. “How do we get our knowledge?…” Reading, obviously. Or perhaps, someone really does has the belief of having intrinsic or heritage knowledge in our genes?
Sci-fi jokes aside, the objective of our RUS101 – Integrated Studio, as written in the slide,
To Learn, Do, Acquire, Get, Equip with basic tools; To Participate in the development of the built environment.
- quoted from Mr. Wan Burhanuddin
Prior to that, we must get our essential tools to accomplish our mission. Such as:
1. Documents : Text, Images. Regardless of Stationary or Dynamic type. (Legacies are usually in the form of documents, don’t they?)
2. Communication: Text, Images, Models. To present, argue, show, exhibit, negotiate and etc. (Ranging from verbal conversation to tele-conference? Or even Telepathy? Hehe.)
3. Design: Text, Images, Models, Objects, Prototypes, Spaces, Events, Happening. (The Soul of Design, yeah!)
4. Construct: A Page > A Page in History (Personally interpret this point to the fame, establishment and greatness of our contribution)
5. Serve: Bottom billion > Top-ten (Hierarchy of Pyramid, and yes, I am aiming for the Top-ten throughout my life, alongside God)
- quoted from Mr. Wan Burhanuddin, commented by Jin
That was very interesting…indeed. But something even more interesting sneaked in – the Six Elements of Production! Identical to the concept of “What, Where, Who, Why, How?”, the line of production is composed of intention, actor, site, act, rule and product. For a more specific description, I suggest you to read my post in the other blog:

Last but not least, he showed us the word – “plagiarism”. One of top 10 things I hate the most. It is redundant and unqualified for me to discuss more about plagiarism here, but I would like to express my opinion a little here: Plagiarize means to reproduce illicitly, claiming it as your own product. As long as you include the reference and credit for the original intellectual property, you should be able keep the blame and warning from people at bay. If you copy and pasted something from any source without giving a proper credit and claim it as your own, you are plagiarizing. Go read more on http://www.plagiarism.org or wikipedia.
Back to the main story.
When I was in my deep thought, I sense a cue of incoming assignment. Not long later, he gave us a highlight of our subject schedule, project marks and…Project 1A myHOME (which is what I am writing now, sob).
10 Projects, 10 Groups and 10 Studiomasters. It marks the beginning of my commitment. Well, it’s about time to gear up my brain and hands.
For those who are interested in our Studiomasters, here they are: http://www.hbp.usm.my/1b/100/smasters.htm
About what I read today, it’s the introduction to the subject of RUS101 Integrated Studio. Welcome to the club, folks.
